nostalgia

I scoured my cupboards to see if there was some corn meal lurking therein. There was not. There was, however, 3 kinds of arborio rice, 1 package of masa, 1 package of corn grits, 1 half can of polenta, and 2 ziplocs with what I am guessing to be more masa or polenta. None of it was labeled and none of it had a date on it. This means it's all from 2001, and purchased by the ex, likely in the midst of his Rick Bayless-induced homemade tamale and tortilla phase.

I threw it all out. Even *I* know that stuff doesn't keep for 3 years.

I think I must officially be in the nostalgia phase of getting over the Ex. I am newly appreciative of all the little things he did as far as taking care of me, with the cooking at the top of the list.

Of course, I know why I am feeling this way at this time of the year. Thanksgiving isn't just MY favorite holiday.

I do miss him. But there's nothing I can do about that, alas.
