all the fading stars

fountain Somehow, the only Mission Creek Music Festival event I made it to was the Stratford 4 gig at du Nord last night. Im happy I have a sparkly clean apartment accessorized with a few large boxes of stuff that will be gone soon, but I could have been very happy listening to good music and drinking beer all weekend too. Stratford 4 was listed as the middle band on a bill of 3 bands, but, instead, ended up as the headliner in a night with four bands (Tarentel, Tussle, and 20 Minute Loop.)

This means my girls night out went on for much longer than expected. Im glad I lined my stomach with some comfort food at Park Chow to accompany the red wine and super-deluxe mai tai that followed. This mai tai was so strong that my partner in crime was amazed I was able to make my way through it and still be able to bop along in time to the music on the dance floor. After a few pints, she was ready for bed well before the Stratford 4 took to the stage.

Im personally pleased I talked her into staying through their set it was fun, if not as tight as the set I saw them do at the Bottom of the Hill when they opened for Freeheat a few Summers ago. They played lots of new stuff (as far as I could tell, as the owner of their current release and 2 EPs only). Most importantly, they played Hydroplane (yeah!) which is the song of theirs that most frequently gets stuck on replay in my brain. I think theres a free download of it on Amazon if you want to get a listen for yourself.

If coincidences come in threes, then I am just about due for another one. First, I saw, on a mailing list, while I was out propping up the US economy while on my lunch break, the name and email address of a boy I knew (and liked) in high school, or his dad (they share the same name). The address was even what I remembered it to be from his long lost letters. In the early evening, after meeting up w/my partner in crime for our girls night of fun and frivolity, in waltzed a high school era person who happens to be a good friends ex. Lately, Ive been running into that boy all over the place. After these 2 coincidences, both from the same era, I have to admit I did the unthinkable: I stopped looking around.

I stopped taking in the indie boy eye candy and buried my nose in my cocktail. Why? cuz I was afraid of who I might see next. First the name of a boy I used to like, second the ex of a good friend, the third could have been and still might be someone quite frighteningI wont even hazard a guess.

After less than four hours of sleep last night, I am due for a massive dose of beauty rest
